Virtual Race FAQ

What is a virtual race?

A virtual race can be run (or walked!) anytime and anywhere, even indoors on a treadmill.  Participants in the virtual race earn a limited edition Digital Finisher Medal and the official Digital Finisher’s Certificate and the warm glow of knowing that you’re participating in a communal event while doing something you love.

How does a virtual race work?

Simply register to participate then complete the distance anytime and anywhere you like (yes – even on a treadmill!). You will receive instructions to submit your results and download your digital medal and certificate in your confirmation email.

How do I pay for the series?

Participants that are registered for the Ascension Seton Austin Marathon, Half Marathon, 5K or 3M Half Marathon receive free entry in the series. If you registered before July 6th a code was emailed to you. If you registered after, then your code is in your confirmation email.

If you are not registered you can choose to register for each event in the series individually as they open up.

Who can participate?

Anyone! Young or “well-seasoned”, fast or slow, race veterans or just starters – we encourage participants of all ages and ability levels. If you are registered for the 2021 Austin Marathon or 3M Half Marathon you can participate for FREE in the entire series. If you are not, you can register for each individual race for $18.

Can I walk? Do I have to complete the entire distance all at once?

We call this event a “run” but we welcome participants from all “walks” of life.

Most participants complete their run all at once, but we understand that not everyone is able to complete the 5k distance in one outing.

Just track your distance and time each day and enter your TOTAL TIME after you have completed the TOTAL DISTANCE.

How do I track my distance and time my run?

We accept results on the honor system, so you can track your distance and time however you like. The most accurate way to do this is by using a Running GPS watch, but there are also several free smartphone apps available for iPhones and Android devices that you may be interested in.

Where do I upload my results?

Each participant will receive a personalized link to submit your results to the timing page when they register. The link can be found in your confirmation email

Do I have to upload my results in order to receive my finishing certificate?

Yes.  Once you submit your results you will be able to access your digital medal and certificate.

We also encourage all participants to submit a finisher photo to the Austin Marathon team! We love to see your pictures!
