Divisions & Awards

The Austin Marathon is proud to recognize the outstanding efforts of all participants by offering a variety of divisions and awards. Explore the details below to see how you can qualify for recognition and celebrate your achievements.

Elite Division

  • Who Qualifies: Runners accepted into the Elite Program.
  • Award Basis: Awards are determined by gun time.
  • Award Categories:
    • Marathon: Top 5 Men and Women
    • Half Marathon: Top 5 Men and Women
    • 5K: Top 3 Men and Women
  • Note: Elite runners are not eligible for age group or non-binary awards.

Age Group Awards

  • Who Qualifies: All participants based on their age as of race day.
  • Award Basis: Awards are determined by chip time.
  • Age Brackets: (For all races: Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5K)
    • Age group awards will also be presented to the top 3 male and female in each age group, starting at 19 & Under and going to 85+ in 5-year increments. An age group masters champion will be awarded.

      19 & Under 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-85, 85+.

  • Awards Per Bracket: Top 3 finishers in each age group.

Non-Binary Division Awards

  • Who Qualifies: Non-binary participants in all races.
  • Award Basis: Awards are determined by chip time.
  • Award Categories:
    • Marathon: Top 5 Non-Binary Finishers
    • Half Marathon: Top 5 Non-Binary Finishers
    • 5K: Top 5 Non-Binary Finishers

Wheelchair Division

  • Who Qualifies: Participants using racing wheelchairs.
  • Award Basis: Awards are determined by chip time.
  • Award Categories:
    • Marathon: Top 3 Finishers
    • Half Marathon: Top 3 Finishers
    • 5K: Top 3 Finishers

Important Notes

  • Gun Time vs. Chip Time:
    • Gun Time is used to determine Elite Division awards, this is when the race officially starts.
    • Chip Time is used for all other awards. This time starts when your timing chip on your bib crosses the timing mats.

Awards Pick-Up

Participants who qualify for awards can collect them as follows:

Award pick-up will take place near the finish line at 7th and Congress in the designated Awards Tent.

  • Note: Some awards may not be available for immediate release due to timing disputes. If this occurs, we will communicate with you after the event to resolve the issue.

Awards Tent Hours

The Awards Tent will remain open until 2:00 PM on race day.

Unable to Pick Up on Race Day?

  • Participants who cannot pick up their awards on race day will be contacted via email with instructions on how to have their awards mailed.
  • Processing Time: Please allow 1–2 weeks after the event for this process to be completed.
