Austin Marathon Opens Applications for 2027 Elite Athlete Program

in Blog post

Top marathon and half marathon athletes invited to compete in Texas’s premier running event.

Applications are now open for the 2027 Ascension Seton Austin Marathon, and Half Marathon Elite Athlete Program, inviting qualified runners from around the world to compete on one of the most recognized stages in Texas.

Set for Sunday, February 14, 2027, the Austin Marathon continues to attract a deep field of elite competitors alongside thousands of runners from across the United States and beyond. Known for its energetic spectators, challenging USATF-certified course, and competitive full marathon prize purse, the event has become a premier destination for athletes seeking both fast performances and an unforgettable experience.

The Elite Athlete Program is designed to support high-performing athletes competing in both the marathon and half marathon distances. Acceptance into the program is based on qualifying performances, competitive credentials, and available field size, ensuring a strong and balanced elite field across both distances.

“Each year, we’re excited to welcome athletes who raise the level of competition and help create an incredible experience for everyone on the course,” said Emily Stevens, Elite Athlete Coordinator for the Austin Marathon. “Austin has become a destination where elite runners can chase personal bests, compete for a deep prize purse in the marathon, and experience the energy of one of the country’s most passionate running communities.”

Elite athletes accepted into the program receive:

  • Guaranteed entry to the 2027 Austin Marathon or Half Marathon.
  • Front-row start line access with athlete-only amenities.
  • A competitive prize purse (awarded to top finishers in the marathon distance).
  • The chance to race through the streets of one of America’s most vibrant cities on a USATF-certified course.

Qualified athletes interested in joining the 2027 elite field are encouraged to apply online by submitting recent race performances, competitive history, and their preferred race distance. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, with final acceptance determined by established qualifying standards and available field capacity. Applications remain open through December 31, 2026.

Athletes can review qualifying standards and submit an application at youraustinmarathon.com/austin-marathon-elites.
