Where to Find the Best Pre-Run Pasta and Carbs in Austin

in Blog post

Planning a pasta dinner with your running crew? Staying downtown and sorting out breakfast before race morning? Start with these four Austin stops.

For pre-run pasta in Austin, consider Mandola’s Italian Kitchen in South Austin, North Italia downtown, or Patrizi’s on Manor Road. For bagels to pick up ahead of race morning, check Rosen’s Bagel Co. These suggestions cover different locations and dining styles, rather than ranking one restaurant as best for every runner.

Here’s what’s on the menu and what to know before you go.

Address: 4301 W. William Cannon Drive, E-1, Austin, TX 78749

Mandola’s Arbor Trails location is worth a look if you’re planning a casual dinner with friends. Order at the counter, choose your table, and compare notes on the next morning’s run.

The menu includes Fedelini Pachino, pasta with blistered cherry tomatoes, garlic, basil, and extra-virgin olive oil. Other choices include spaghetti with meatballs or Italian sausage, cheese ravioli, and spaghetti or gnocchi Bolognese.

If pasta with tomato sauce is already part of your pre-run routine, the Fedelini Pachino is a dish to consider. Choose your meal based on what has worked during training, rather than treating race weekend as the time to try a completely different dinner.

Address: 500 W. 2nd Street, Suite 120, Austin, TX 78701

For runners staying downtown, North Italia’s 2nd Street location is one option to check before making dinner plans.

Its fresh pasta menu includes Agnolotti al Pomodoro, with ricotta, pecorino, simple tomato sauce, and basil. There’s also Bolognese, served with pappardelle, Grana Padano, and wild oregano.

These are different meals, not interchangeable versions of “runner fuel.” Pick the dish that fits your usual eating routine, and check reservation availability before bringing the whole crew.

North Italia also lists gluten-free pasta substitutions.

Fettuccine pasta in tomato sauce topped with fresh basil and a dollop of ricotta cheese, making it the best pasta in Austin for pre-run carbs. Austin Marathon Half Marathon & 5KPatrizi’s: Handmade Fettuccine on Manor Road

Address: 2307 Manor Road, Austin, TX 78722

Patrizi’s brings handmade pasta to a food-truck setting with outdoor seating. If you’d like to make dinner part of exploring East Austin, put this stop on your list.

The Pomodoro combines tomatoes, butter, and garlic, finished with house farm cheese and fresh basil. Butter Noodles come with garlic butter and Grana Padano. Both use the restaurant’s fettuccine, made with semolina flour and eggs.

Read the dish descriptions when choosing: the Red Sauce contains pork trimmings, while Karah’s Diavolo includes red chilies. “Red sauce” and “butter noodles” don’t tell you every ingredient.

The Manor Road location currently lists evening hours, so check its schedule when planning an early dinner.

Republic Square: 422 W. 5th Street, Suite C, Austin, TX 78701

Burnet Road: 11101 Burnet Road, Suite A100, Austin, TX 78758

If a bagel is your usual pre-run breakfast, Rosen’s gives you an option beyond the pasta dinner. The shop makes its bagels in-house using a 48-hour process.

Choose the bagel and toppings you’ve already tried before running, and plan your pickup around your weekend schedule.

Marathon runners should pick up breakfast before race day rather than count on a morning stop at Rosen’s. Its currently listed weekend opening times are 8 a.m. at Republic Square and 7 a.m. at Burnet Road. The 2027 Austin Marathon is scheduled to start at 7 a.m. on Sunday, February 14.

When you’re comparing the best pasta restaurants in Austin for a pre-run dinner, start with the menu and location, then consider your own routine.

Sports Dietitians Australia recommends familiar, well-tolerated foods that are high in carbohydrate and low in fat before exercise. It also recommends testing meal timing and food choices during training, not on competition day.

For carb loading in Austin, that means choosing meals that fit your practiced fueling plan. A restaurant recommendation alone doesn’t establish the carbohydrate amount or timing you need.

If you have food allergies or celiac disease, contact the restaurant about ingredients and preparation. A gluten-free pasta option does not necessarily mean a gluten-free kitchen.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I get pasta in downtown Austin before the marathon?

North Italia at 500 W. 2nd Street serves fresh pasta, including Agnolotti al Pomodoro and Bolognese. Check its current menu and reservation availability when planning your pre-race dinner.

Where can I find a casual pasta dinner in Austin?

Mandola’s Arbor Trails location offers counter service in South Austin. Patrizi’s on Manor Road serves handmade fettuccine in a food-truck setting with outdoor seating.

Is pasta a good choice before a long run?

Pasta can fit a carbohydrate-rich pre-run meal. The preparation, portion, and timing should reflect what you’ve tolerated during training; a rich or spicy pasta dish may not suit the same routine as a simpler one.

Can I order gluten-free pasta at these restaurants?

Mandola’s and North Italia list gluten-free pasta substitutions. Confirm availability and cross-contact procedures directly, especially if you have celiac disease or an allergy.

Can I pick up a bagel at Rosen’s before the marathon starts?

Not based on its currently listed weekend hours. Burnet Road opens at 7 a.m. and Republic Square at 8 a.m., while the 2027 marathon is scheduled to start at 7 a.m. Pick up your breakfast the day before.

Make Dinner Part of Your Austin Marathon Weekend

Send your crew the menu, agree on a dinner time, and get breakfast sorted before race morning. Whether you choose downtown pasta, an East Austin dinner, or bagels to take back to your hotel, keep your practiced fueling routine in the plan.

Check the Austin Marathon weekend schedule before arranging meals around packet pickup and race day.

Restaurant details were checked October 8, 2026. Menus, hours, and availability may change. Nutrition guidance is general, not an individualized fueling plan.
