Austin Marathon Adds Qualcomm as a Sponsor in 2018

in Press Release, Sponsorship

High Five Events introduces Qualcomm Incorporated as a sponsor of 2018 Austin Marathon®. Qualcomm’s support will consist of an aid station for all race participants and hosting a Qualcomm team tent at the finish line festival. Qualcomm Incorporated will also make a $15,000 contribution to Austin Gives Miles, the official charity program of the Austin Marathon.

“Qualcomm’s sponsorship will impact race weekend, support thousands of participants, and positively affect Central Texas charities,” said Jack Murray, co-owner of High Five Events.

Qualcomm powered the smartphone revolution, pioneered 3G and 4G, connected billions of people, and is now leading the way to 5G and a new era of intelligent, connected devices. Since 2000, more than $335 million combined cash donations have been made to philanthropic organizations by Qualcomm Incorporated and Qualcomm Foundation. During the Austin Marathon, Qualcomm will support up to 15,000 participants through an aid station and will be represented by a team of employees and their families and friends. Qualcomm’s contribution to Austin Gives Miles will positively support the missions of Central Texas nonprofit organizations.

The Austin Marathon will celebrate its 27th year running in the capital of Texas on February 18, 2018. Austin’s flagship running event annually attracts runners from all 50 states and 20+ countries around the world. Having start and finish locations just a few blocks apart, being within walking distance of many downtown hotels and restaurants, and finishing in front of the picturesque Texas State Capitol makes the Austin Marathon the perfect running weekend destination. Participants can register for the marathon, half marathon, or 5K.

High Five Events Continues Support of Texas Coast

in Press Release

Run Austin, Help Texas

High Five Events announces that 100% of registration and processing fees received by the 2018 Austin Marathon and 2018 3M Half Marathon from Tuesday, September 5, through Friday, September 8, will be donated to Texas Coastal Bend Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.

“Half of our staff grew up in or around these small coastal communities and we’re committed to helping them rebuild,” said Stacy Keese, co-owner of High Five Events. “The destruction that I’ve seen first-hand in towns like Port Aransas is heartbreaking. Our hearts go out to Texans on the coast, especially our friends and family that live in the affected areas.”

To date High Five Events has:

  • donated more than $15,000 in new materials such as trash bags, cleaning supplies, new shirts, and duffle bags to Austin Disaster Relief Network
  • assisted clean up efforts in Aransas Pass, Sinton, and Rockport and will continue to volunteer in those communities and other coastal towns over the coming weeks

All event registrations are included in this relief effort: Austin Marathon, half marathon, 5K, VIP Experience, and 3M Half Marathon. High Five Events is working closely with EventDog, who will ensure all processing fees are included with registration totals. Once totals have been calculated, a donation of up to $50,000 will be made to assist in the rebuilding of the Texas Coastal Bend.

Austin Marathon Makes Donation to Camp Kesem – UT

in News

The Austin Marathon® presented by NXP is proud to present Camp Kesem – University of Texas with a donation of $3,671.25. Camp Kesem is receiving this donation because they won a month-long Austin Gives Miles social media contest that determined Chikage Windler, CBS Austin Chief Meteorologist, would run the marathon on behalf of their organization. Austin Gives Miles is the Official Charity Program of the Austin Marathon. The check presentation will take place on Monday, March 27th, at 10:30 a.m. in front of the Texas State Capitol, near the Austin Marathon finish line.

On February 19, Windler was the final marathoner to begin the Austin Marathon and finished in 926th place. Despite warmer than normal temperatures, the avid runner finished in 4:26:39 and earned $1.25 for every marathoner she passed. Windler was the first female Charity Chaser and was exceptional in her role, lending her platform within the Austin community and increasing awareness for Austin Gives Miles’ efforts.

“It’s one thing to run for yourself, but there’s a whole other level of determination when you know every person you pass gets Camp Kesem more money for its programs that help kids deal with a parent’s cancer,” said Windler. “It was hot and it was hilly and the crowd support was fantastic. I am so proud to have #runlikethewindler as the Austin Marathon’s Charity Chaser!

Camp Kesem at University of Texas at Austin was founded in 2011. They support children affected by a parent’s cancer in the Austin community by providing a week-long summer camp experience and year-round peer support. Camp Kesem at University of Texas at Austin is operated by 75 student volunteers and serves 150 campers aged 6-16. They also offer a CIT (Counselor In Training) program in which campers aged 16-17 can apply for and prepare to become a counselor.

“Having Chikage as our Charity Chaser was an amazing experience,” said Carly Samuelson, Austin Gives Miles Program Coordinator. “She took what it means to be a Charity Chaser to the next level not only for Camp Kesem – UT, but for all of Austin Gives Miles.”

Moody Foundation to Match Austin Gives Miles Donations

in Press Release

High Five Events is proud to announce that Austin Gives Miles, the Official Charity Program of the Austin Marathon® presented by NXP, has been selected for a Moody Foundation grant for the second year in a row. The grant will match dollars raised by each of the 27 Austin Gives Miles Official Charities, up to $10,000 per organization.

“The Moody Foundation is pleased to support Austin Gives Miles,” said Elle Moody, Moody Foundation Trustee. “This program gives runners the opportunity to make their miles meaningful by raising funds for a great cause and the grant helps them leverage their donation by matching the funds. We are happy to provide this support for a program that is building a stronger Central Texas community with every step and every mile.”

The Moody Foundation, based in Galveston, Texas, has funded projects and programs that better communities throughout Texas. The grant that will match Austin Gives Miles donations will have a positive impact on the Central Texas organizations and their specific causes by matching their funds raised (up to $10,000). One of the Moody Foundation’s areas of support, community development, directly aligns with the goal of the Austin Marathon: to better Central Texas. Austin Gives Miles is proud to receive this grant and knows the positive effects will be far-reaching.

“We’re both grateful and excited to receive this Moody Foundation grant,” said Carly Samuelson, Austin Gives Miles Charity Manager. The official charities are working harder than ever to enhance their respective organizations and this grant will push that effort to the next level. This grant will make it possible for Austin Gives Miles to raise more than $600,000 this year, bringing the four year total for the program to more than $1 million.”

This is the fourth year that Austin Gives Miles is the Official Charity Program for the Austin Marathon. Last year, Austin Gives Miles contributed more than $446,000 to the Central Texas community through its fundraising efforts. In addition to the funds and awareness raised, last year’s Austin Gives Miles Official Charities recruited more than 750 runners and provided more than 1500 volunteers.

The Austin Marathon will celebrate its 26th year running in the capital of Texas. Austin’s flagship running event annually attracts runners from all 50 states and 20+ countries around the world. With start and finish locations just a few blocks apart, and within walking distance of many downtown hotels and restaurants, the Austin Marathon is the perfect running weekend destination. Participants can still register for the marathon, half marathon, or 5K.
