Zilker Park
Just a few minutes from downtown, Zilker Park’s central location makes it one of the most visited Austin parks. With its 351 acres, it’s hard to imagine there being so much space for everyone to run around, fly kites, or play disc golf. Cross the street to the south to visit the Zilker Playscape or jump into Barton Springs, the 68-degree, spring-fed pool.
Mueller Lake Park
Just a little further to the north, Mueller Lake Park has 30 acres of greenspace and a 6.5-acre lake. Take the kids for a run on parts of the 2.6-mile trail that goes around the lake or let them experience the interactive playscape. You’ll work up an appetite, so it’s best to plan an afternoon picnic and grab something from the food court.
Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park
This is another massive, popular Austin Park located in north Austin. There’s an expansive playground next to the pool. Venture out beyond that and experience 293 acres of greenspace, 15 miles of trail, three different creeks, and one BMX loop. Don’t forget your dog! This is one of the few Austin parks with designated areas where your pup can be off-leash.
Dove Springs District Park
This southeast Austin gem has it all. Baseball and soccer fields, a pool, basketball court, playscape, and a nature trail. Dove Springs Park is also home to the George Morales Recreation Center, which hosts sports leagues and special events.
Govalle Neighborhood Park
This isn’t just your regular neighborhood park, Govalle Park consists of 26 acres of parkland along the East Boggy Creek Greenbelt. It’s also the main start point for the Southern Walnut Creek Trail, which extends all the way out to Decker Lake. There’s plenty of wide-open space, a pool, and a recently renovated playground.
These Austin parks provide so many different ways to keep your family active. From wide-open greenspaces and miles of trails to playscapes and courts, they have it all. But they’re not the only ones. If these 5 Austin parks aren’t close to you, use this directory to discover what’s near you!
